Delhi Commonwealth Games sports power management

Less than a sprint of 100 days for the Commonwealth Games 2010 and the charged atmosphere in the plush office of the Organizing Committee for the Games Mantar, near New Delhi’s Jantar iconic palpable.

An army of enthusiastic young Indian graduates, some MBAs, just some college graduates, some with experience in sports administration, and many of them with a passion for the sport, are brushing shoulders with some 70 foreign experts in what is perhaps the event largest team for the Games.

Over the past two years, many of these young men and women have been pouring in on the power point presentations, charts, diagrams and designs to create the backbone of the Commonwealth Games. If the Games to move for good, they know, India has come to hold more events like sports and sports leaders will be in vogue.

The prospects are enormous. Apart from the Commonwealth Games, a number of other sports properties are planned in India in the near future. The next is the ICC World Cup Cricket next year, Formula One, the Chennai Open and Sunfeast Open tennis tournaments and a few golf tournaments.

Needless to say, logistics management, marketing, catering, ceremonies, crowds, ticket sales, media, among others, will be the big challenges in the future, as everywhere in the world, young professionals with the right skillsets come to play their part.

Consider the Indian Premier League for example. Even those with a grudge against Lalit Modi admitted that the conclusion of the show was not child’s play. In fact, Mr. IPL Modi had to look outside of India and finally IMG hired to administer the program. Even team owners have had their share of problems finding the right sports leaders. They have hired either former athletes or delegates senior executives from companies of the group to run the program.

Facebook Gamers Are Frequent Players

Consumers surveyed by Inside Network also displayed loyalty as to which games drew their spending for virtual goods. Some 84 percent who paid more than $25 said they had done so for only one game on Facebook. About 15 percent who spent in excess of $25 had invested in two games.

Inside Network surveyed 1,800 people who said they play social games on Facebook. The findings suggest that a small portion of game players on the social networking site generate a majority of the spending on virtual goods, says Inside Network’s Justin Smith, who co-wrote the report. “The top 10 percent or so of the people who spend are spending 10 to 20 times more than what most other people are spending,” Smith said.

Consumers in the U.S. will spend $1.6 billion this year on virtual goods, according to ThinkEquity. The survey’s results may be skewed to favor more active users, said Michael Pachter, an analyst at Wedbush Morgan Securities. “I am not surprised that 90 percent of the people who took the time to respond to a survey that started with ‘only answer if you play social games’ actually play every day,” Pachter said in an e-mail. “It’s like asking people who visit a racetrack how often they bet on races.”

Real Madrid To Sign Benfica Winger Angel Di Maria‎

Real Madrid want to close the signing of Benfica winger Angel di Maria as soon as possible. Benfica president Luis Filipe Vieira would prefer to wait until July 1 for book-keeping purposes, but Real want to announce the transfer immediately.

The two clubs have agreed a €25 million fee, says AS, with Di Maria verbally agreeing on a five-year Real contract. Only a signature from Di Maria is needed to seal the deal.
